Unbelievable Severe Lower Back Pain in Late Pregnancy

I was in my 9th month of pregnancy and I had to spend full two weeks in bed because of the sever lower back pain in late pregnancy. It was so unbelievable, and it was not even labor… Let me tell you what happened!

It was my very first pregnancy. And at the time I was self employed. I work many hours over time so I could spend more time when the baby came. I really was nuts, now that I think of it. I would go on for 16 hours without a minute rest. I just felt so good and energized and excited. 

I mean, I felt so good that I helped my husband with getting the nursery ready. I just could not wait him to arrive and I just wanted everything to be perfect. 

The first time pain happened was at the 7th month pregnancy. That is the same time I started experiencing really bad leg cramps. The kind that woke me up screaming in the middle of the night! At my Dr. visit I mentioned it to him, and he said, I need more rest. 

Like I was going to listen to him! He did not know of all the things I needed to do before! Yes, I know, I was crazy and I beat myself for it later on! By the time the 9th month came around, I was so bad, I had to stay in bed for 2 weeks. I had pinched my sciatica nerve. If you don’t know what that is, it feels like the pain shooting down your front or back leg. Often the back and it really feels terrible! My pain was so bad, that my husband rolled me around on the chair so I could go to the bathroom and even with that it would take around 2 hours.

Suffering From Extreme Lower Back Pain in Pregnancy

I know exactly how you feel. I suffered from an extreme lower back pain in pregnancy, and it seemed like there was no end to it! That was with my first pregnancy and I’ve made plenty of the mistakes, and I hope you won’t have to by reading this article!

You see, I used to run around for the whole day, not taking care of myself like I should have. NO naps, no rest, I lifted things, I did it all because I felt so good. I was so excited to have my baby! The energy I felt was so high, unbelievable. Well, you know how it is.

But…I was so wrong to do it like that. No matter how good you feel, you should NEVER not take care of your body. If you don’t take care of it, you will end up with extreme lower back pain in pregnancy, exactly what happened to me!

It was my third trimester, at 36 weeks, and I had so many things I had to do. We were painting our house, every single thing, and I was helping out. We wanted to get the baby`s room ready, sky blue with yellow mix in it, I wanted to wash all of the clothing, bed set, etc, and to top it off, I was still working a lot more than full time. I was self employed, and when you are self employed if you don’t work you don’t make money, and I wanted to take couple of months off from work when the baby comes, so I worked over time.

So one day, with all that was going on, I felt this sharp pain in my back, and it felt like it was shooting down my leg. You would have thought I would stop at that, and get some rest, but I was so stubborn I kept on going. I went to the store, and it was getting worse. I had to stop and see few of my clients, and by that time, I could not get out of my car. That is how bad it got. So I drive home, which with traffic took me, 1 full hour, and when I got home, there was no body there to help me. I set in my car for 20 minutes not being able to get out! Because of that, I was ordered to bed rest for 2 full weeks!

So when I said, I know exactly what an extreme lower back pain in pregnancy is, I meant it! Even thought I had to stay in bed for 2 weeks, after couple of days I felt a lot better, because I used some safe stretching exercises and few natural remedies to make the pain go away.

Working Long Hours With Computers Without Lower Back Pain

As a computer programmer, I sit in front of the computer for at least 7 hours each day. This is the work I chose to do and I never get bored or tired of doing it even if it takes so many hours. As you already should have guessed the problem of being sited for a long time is the lower back discomfort and pain you get after the first hour or so. And it gets worst along the day.

In my case, my legs also become to feel numb after awhile. When you are very concentrated on your computer work (may it be programming, writing an article using a word processor, doing account with a spreadsheet, and so on)  after awhile you feel something is not right with your body. To compensate for this annoying sensation you unconsciously start to lean your torso forward and sometimes backward just to try to make the dumbness go away. But it will not.

What I usually do and most people can’t do because they are not allowed is to take a short 15 minutes walk around the block to give time for my leg and back muscles do some exercise so the blood can flow easily.

Now imagine that instead of sitting on a normal chair in front of a normal desk you could sit on a tall chair very much like a bar stool in front of a tall desk. You keep working in a sited position just like you used to do. Then, when you start getting those uncomfortable body signs we talked earlier, you simply step down of your tall stool or chair and keep working normally standing up on your feet allowing your lower body to have some space again. You can even put one foot on the step of the chair for more comfort and lower back relaxation.

You can start to see this happen in lots and lots of places with amazing heath results for the people that, like me and you, have to work the long hours in the same sitting position. If you miss the 15 minutes walk around the block don’t make this suggestion to your boss. On the other hand, if you want to produce more with your computer with this simple approach you can get one more working hour per single day.

Slowly inhale and expand your ribcage. Fill the lungs to its full capacity but do it slowly and deliberately. As you exhale engage the abdominals and let out the air through you mouth. Almost like a sigh. Repeat ten times.

If the back feels stuck or immobile lets try a different exercise. The Cat.

The Cat will help release and mobilize your spine. This exercise should not cause you any pain. So like any other exercise proceed with caution. If you feel a pinch or a sharp pain stop immediately and seek medical assistance.

Kneel on all fours with hands placed directly beneath your shoulders. Knees should be in line with your hips and the lower part should be straight. Keep head parallel to the floor. Maintain the neutral spine while keeping your shoulders away from your ears.

Elbows soft and weight must be equally distributed between your hands and knees. Now focus on the base of your spine. Curl tailbone under. Breathe out as you curl. Rounding the spine as you proceed. Once the spine can no longer curl focus now on the top of the head and slowly extend the spine from head, to neck, to the mid back section, and finally releasing the lower back. Breathe in or inhale as you uncurl the spine.

There are a few things you must keep in mind. Whether curling or uncurling the back – the neck should feel long and strong. No jotting out of the chin. And stay balanced. So lets go for ten!

You should be able to release tension from the lower back. The Cat is also used for neck injuries and shoulder concerns.
